Cooperation and Information Sharing Protocol Signed between the Personal Data Protection Authority and the Competition Authority!
The Cooperation and Information Sharing Protocol (“Protocol”) signed on 26 October 2023 between the Personal Data Protection Authority (“KVKK”) and the Competition Authority aims to provide closer cooperation and detailed information exchange for the examinations and investigations carried out by both institutions in their respective jurisdictions.
This protocol was published on the websites of both institutions and aims to support the investigations and examinations carried out by the Personal Data Protection Authority. During the meeting, it was emphasized that ensuring compliance with the Personal Data Protection legislation will increase the competitiveness of national and international companies and it was agreed that the KVKK and the Competition Authority will cooperate and share information on issues that require information exchange. These issues were agreed upon in this meeting held with the participation of the heads of the authorities.
Under the Protocol, both authorities agreed on the following points;
- Carrying out joint activities in areas that fall within the areas of responsibility and duty of both institutions, which require rapid intervention and may cause major damages,
- Preparation of reports to raise awareness on both personal data and competition protection, especially in digital markets, and to convey common messages to businesses on practices related to both areas of law,
- Organizing joint presentations and discussion programs within the scope of “Wednesday Seminars” of the Personal Data Protection Authority and/or “Thursday Conferences” of the Competition Authority,
- Organizing trainings to share the expertise and experience of relevant institutions in their fields,
- Discussing common issues at national and international events attended by relevant authorities and supporting these events on issues related to their own fields,
- It was agreed to apply for active cooperation efforts.
